The First step of
configuring your ADSL technology Broadband Modem is to connect it with your
Laptop or PC through a LAN cable (comes with the modem with RJ45 connector in
both side ). Connect one side of the LAN cable to PC/Laptop's LAN port and
another side to Modems LAN port. If your modem has more than one LAN port (say
four) than you can select any one for configuration purpose. Secondly, you have
to change the IP of your PC's Ethernet/LAN port.
LAN Settings:
In windows 7 or 8 LAN it can
be found by : Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing
Centre > Change Adapter Setting. Right Click on Ethernet and go to ‘properties’.
Under ‘Networking’ tab, scroll down and go to ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP)’,
mark the ‘Use The Following IP Address’ button and put the following IP –
IP Address :
192.168.1.5(say)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:
192.168.1.1. (Note that this IP should be same as Modem’s Default IP which is
written on the modem. If your modem manufacturer provides different IP unlike
this than you should change it)
Now Power On the modem. If there is no mistake
or problem in PC’s LAN port than you can now access the modem from your PC.
Modem Configuration:
Broadband Modems of ADSL
technology can be configured in two ways. Firstly, we can configure it using
the CD that comes with modems. For that one need to insert the CD in CD-ROM and
follow the steps accordingly.
The second method is to open
your browser (i.e. Internet explorer or Google chrome) and type the default
Modem IP (say for most of the modem types it is 192.168.1.1) in the address bar
and ‘Enter’. The modem configuration page will display like a webpage. You will
be asked for a user ID and Password. They are written on the modem or user
manual. For example, most of the modems have ‘admin’ and ‘admin’ as user ID and
password respectively. Different modem manufacturer may have different
interface or layout of the page. But don’t worry; the basic things are almost
same. So guys, in my blog I shall go with this second Method.
